Do I get Native 4k?

Regular Blu-shop customers know that when it comes to animated films, the vast majority of the time, they were rendered in 2k. The Polar Express is no exception, and its master was in 2k on its release date. But equally, we know that animated films are much easier to convert to 4k, and due to the nature of the source material, an animated film converted to 4k is usually indistinguishable from a native 4k film. In this respect, we can expect excellent quality from The Polar Express, as with other elements of the video - we are most looking forward to the colour transfer and brightness dynamics that the new HDR grading will bring to the film. We're also looking forward to higher quality compression, as the vintage Blu-ray with the even older VC-1 codec didn't look all that great at launch, let alone now that standards are much higher. So, in sum, we can expect nothing but a superb upgrade from the Ultra HD transfer, which, as in most cases, surpasses not only all previous video presentations, but also the look of the film in cinemas, which cannot convey the combination of 4k and HDR in the vast majority of cases.
