King Kong (Theatrical and Extended Cut)

Peter Jackson shot his dream project on 35mm motion picture film, then had it scanned into the digital realm to integrate a massive amount of visual effects rendered in 2k. Naturally, the final master was finished at that same resolution, meaning the film is upscaled for its Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation. Even so, reviewers note a modest uptick in sharpness and fine detail. Some reviews especially single out the HDR grade, which lends the film more vibrant colors and greater photorealism—the nighttime scenes in New York in particular are said to look gorgeous. Thanks to the wider color palette and dynamic range, the CGI effects generally appear somewhat more convincing, though there are also sequences (such as the Brontosaurus stampede) where they actually look worse. The audio has been newly remixed in DTS:X.
