Stephen King

One of the most successful contemporary American writers, Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947, in Portland, Maine, a place connected not only to most of his life but also to a significant part of his work, as many of his stories are set there. King started as a short story writer, and before writing could support him, he worked, among other things, in a laundry, where he wrote his first novels at night. Among his most famous works are his debut Carrie, The Shining, The Dark Tower, Pet Sematary, It, The Green Mile, and The Stand.

Since he focuses primarily on terrifying stories, his books have frequently been the subject of more or less successful film adaptations, some of which have become horror classics (The Shining, Carrie). However, fantasy and post-apocalyptic science fiction are not foreign to him either. In recent years, his name has also appeared in television series - King's work has inspired The Dead Zone, Castle Rock, The Mist, Mr. Mercedes, and Under the Dome.
