Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Although the live-action scenes were shot on the Red Epic Dragon at a monstrous 6K resolution, all of the digital effects—on which the film practically relies—were rendered in 2K, which is consequently the resolution at which the final master was produced. In the case of the Ultra HD Blu-ray, it is therefore an upscale. However, it should be noted that the film does not and never will exist at a higher resolution.

Alongside a step up in resolution over the Blu-ray, the Ultra HD Blu-ray will benefit primarily from HDR, which—at least in Dolby Vision theatrical presentations—handled shadows and blacks superbly. This should help the image create a deeper sense of space within each scene, which in the jungle sequences will certainly aid the digital effects, making the CGI look more realistic. In addition to dynamic range, the picture will also benefit from a substantially wider color palette. In both cases, these bring a greater benefit than native 4K resolution alone would.
