Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Guillermo del Toro shot Pacific Rim on Red Epic cameras capturing 5K resolution. However, the entire post-production pipeline—and above all the digital effects crafted by ILM—was completed in 2K, as was the final master.

More than resolution, however, it is HDR that truly benefits Pacific Rim. The film is built on contrasts between pitch-black nighttime scenes and saturated neon colors—material practically born for a powerhouse HDR presentation. Even the Blu-ray excelled in rendering deep blacks and dense colors, but the wider dynamic range and expanded color palette of the UHDBD benefit Pacific Rim even further; we can confirm that the Ultra HD presentation is a feast for the eyes. It boasts excellent luminance and color detail reproduction in the specular highlights alongside breathtaking blacks, resulting in truly top-tier contrast. Thanks to this combination, Pacific Rim looks almost three-dimensional—a sentiment echoed by international reviews of the disc, which hail the film as pure demo material. Furthermore, the UHDBD includes a Dolby Atmos track that was absent from the original Blu-ray editions, even though it was one of the very first titles mixed in the format for theaters.
