The Last of Us Collection 4k | Season 1–2

Season 1 info: Yes. Thanks to modern displays and new distribution methods, standards for high-end television production have risen considerably in recent years, making native 4k the prevailing norm in digital workflows. The video game adaptation The Last of Us is no exception. The series was shot on Arri Alexa Mini cameras; although their raw capture topped out at 'only' 3.4k, that provided a more than sufficient technical foundation for a 4k master. The entire show was therefore produced and post-produced in 4k, treating viewers to superb visuals aided further by the fact that alongside native 4k mastering, TLoU was graded natively for both major HDR formats—HDR-10 and Dolby Vision.

Season 2 info: Yes. For Season 2, the crew behind The Last of Us elevated an already impressive audiovisual production to the next level by replacing the Arri Alexa Mini digital cameras with newer, technically more advanced Arri Alexa 35 units. By sensor size, these cameras emulate classic 35mm motion picture film and visually approximate its organic look. The Alexa 35 captures raw footage at 4.6k resolution, while digital post-production was carried out in 4k, topped off with native HDR grading in Dolby Vision. Assuming the filmmakers did their job properly—which goes without saying for one of television's biggest, most expensive, and most anticipated projects—this modern technical pipeline practically guarantees reference-grade source elements. From the Ultra HD Blu-ray transfer, one can naturally expect nothing less than the absolute maximum the format can deliver: image quality surpassing every other existing distribution channel, VoD included.
