War of the Worlds

Yes. Steven Spielberg is, of course, a devoted advocate of analog film and photochemical post-production. The raw 35mm footage of War of the Worlds was therefore finished photochemically, with a digital intermediate used only for scenes relying on VFX. For its re-release, the studio was able to go back to the original camera negatives, scan them in 4k, and create a native 4k master. Only the VFX shots remain in 2k. The vast majority of the footage thus benefits from a major leap in fine detail rendering and sharpness, further supported by superior compression and, naturally, expanded luminance and color spaces—alongside standard HDR10, the film is presented on UHDBD in Dolby Vision, complemented by a Dolby Atmos audio remix. Thanks to these technologies, the Ultra HD Blu-ray extracts nearly the absolute maximum from the source elements, and it is safe to say the film has never looked better—and never will.

In the Czech Republic, we can also celebrate a high-definition premiere—the film was never released on standard Blu-ray with Czech language support, and since no such disc exists, War of the Worlds arrives in a single-disc configuration exclusively on UHDBD. Local audiences thus have the opportunity to see War of the Worlds in proper high quality for the very first time—and right at the highest possible tier!
