The Mask of Zorro 4K, Steelbook

Yes—and in truly reference-grade fashion! Martin Campbell’s swashbuckling adventure classic starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, and Catherine Zeta-Jones was shot on classic 35mm film by cinematographer Phil Méheux using Panavision cameras and anamorphic Panavision Primo lenses (2.39:1). Because the 1998 spectacle relied on real stunt work, practical explosions, and grand physical sets—and was finished entirely photochemically without a digital intermediate (DI)—Sony Pictures was able to go straight back to the original 35mm camera negatives, scanning them in 4k to strike a pristine native 4k master. Better still, this 25th Anniversary edition houses the transfer with generous bitrates on a high-capacity triple-layer BD-100 disc, upgrading the earlier HDR-10 release with dynamic Dolby Vision metadata alongside a powerhouse Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The result stands among the crown jewels of catalog Ultra HD Blu-ray releases: intricate lace gowns, weathered leather, engraved rapier blades, sweat-drenched close-ups, and dusty Californian haciendas boast razor-sharp clarity backed by fine, effortlessly organic film grain and rock-solid HEVC encoding. Dolby Vision, HDR-10, and a wide color gamut (WCG) infuse the frame with dazzling depth—flickering torches during nocturnal raids, fiery mine explosions, and golden sunsets gleam brilliantly against Zorro’s ink-black cloak and mask, while James Horner’s sweeping orchestral score and whipping blades in Dolby Atmos turn the disc into pure home-theater demo material that surpasses even original theatrical prints.
