Do I get native 4K Ultra HD?

Yes. Stanley Kubrick shot 2001: A Space Odyssey on 70mm film, with all visual effects created through a combination of miniatures and practical techniques. For the film’s 50th anniversary, the 70mm negatives were restored. Exceptionally, this was not a standard digital restoration involving scanning and software cleaning. Instead, the negatives were cleaned exclusively photochemically. The entire process remained fully analog, thanks to director Christopher Nolan, who insisted that the studio avoid any digital intervention and personally supervised the restoration work. Under his guidance, new 70mm prints were created to faithfully preserve Kubrick’s original artistic intent.

These 70mm reels, whose theoretical resolution due to the physical size of the film frame exceeds 10K, were then scanned in 4K. For the Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation, a native 4K master was used. As a result, the transfer delivers both striking sharpness and fine detail, preserves the natural film grain, and—thanks to WCG—offers richer colors and smoother tonal transitions than any previous version available for home viewing.
