Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Stanley Kubrick naturally shot Full Metal Jacket on 35mm motion picture film, allowing Warner Bros. to restore the war classic from the archival negatives, which served as the basis for a 4K scan and subsequent master. The Ultra HD Blu-ray thus benefits from an increase in resolution, dynamic range, and color palette—the disc unlocks the maximum potential of all these elements from the original analog film stock. Alongside this, viewers can count on superior compression, which reproduces film grain more faithfully than standard Blu-ray. All in all, Full Metal Jacket has never looked better, and we can enjoy it at home in higher quality than audiences did during its original theatrical run. The only difference is that Kubrick originally shot the film in a different aspect ratio—instead of the Academy ratio, the UHDBD (like all previous home video releases and theatrical reissues) presents the film in 1.78:1.
