2012 (2009), directed by: Roland Emmerich

It was foretold by the ancient Maya: the year 2012 would be the last for planet Earth. And so it came to pass, as under the directorial supervision of destruction master Emmerich, the planet is struck by a series of catastrophic events.

Do I get native 4K Ultra HD?

Yes. According to Bill Hunt from TheDigitalBits, the studio returned to the original Super35 negatives and scanned them in 4K. The digital effects (mastered in 2K, of course) were then upscaled for the new master, as were some shots captured on digital cameras. In any case, as the source for the new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, the studio appears to have used a new native 4K master. As is often the case with UHDBDs, other video elements—particularly color and brightness range—can be more important than resolution. The new 2012 transfer therefore benefits from an audiovisual upgrade in every aspect: higher resolution, wider WCG color gamut, HDR brightness range, new and higher-quality HEVC compression on a sufficiently large triple-layer disc, remixed audio track in Dolby Atmos—all of which results in the definitive and best-looking presentation of this film, which will not look any better than this.
