Do I get native 4k ULTRA HD?

James Cameron shot his 1986 sci-fi action masterpiece with cinematographer Adrian Biddle on high-speed Eastman 400T 5294 35mm analog film—notorious for its pronounced grain—and finished it photochemically. For this 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray release (housing both the Theatrical Cut and the 17-minute longer Special Edition on a triple-layer BD-100 disc), rather than striking a fresh 4k scan of the negative, Cameron's team at Park Road Post took Lowry Digital's existing 2k/HD restoration master and processed it through AI neural-network de-graining and sharpening algorithms to create a 4k master. Consequently, the transfer has sparked intense debate among overseas reviewers and film purists: while the scrubbed grain and occasional waxy facial textures look distinctly digital, the image simultaneously delivers striking clarity and tremendous benefits from Dolby Vision, HDR-10, WCG, and Dolby Atmos across the dark corridors of Hadley's Hope and fiery pulse-rifle blasts.
