Do I get native 4K ULTRA HD?
Yes. Gladiator was made before Hollywood went completely digital in the post-production chain. So the footage recorded on 35mm film was finished photochemically, with digital interference only on shots where computer-generated effects were needed. The analogue print was then completely restored a few years ago, scanned in 6k resolution and then mastered in 4k. The Ultra HD Blu-ray master is based on this restoration process and therefore certainly has a lot to draw from. Combined with the HDR, which comes with an extra Dolby Vision enhancement on the disc, this is without question the best presentation of Gladiator that the viewer's eye has ever seen. In addition, it should be noted that the sound mix, which is now in DTS:X, has also undergone a rejuvenation.

Do I get native 4K ULTRA HD?
Yes. Ridley Scott filmed the second Gladiator using large-format digital Arri Alexa LF cameras, supplemented by their Mini variants. In both cases, the raw footage was recorded at a resolution of 4.5K, with subsequent post-production conducted in 4K – the same resolution used to produce the final distribution master.
The native 4K source materials promise the current standard of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format: exceptional sharpness and detailed rendering, excellent color and brightness transfer, all at a quality higher than what most theaters typically offer. While Scott’s productions, due to their nature, may not always reach the pinnacle of technical perfection—since he focuses more on coverage quantity than its quality during shooting—you can still expect above-average audiovisual presentation on UHDBD. Even the format’s average output is far superior to any other distribution method.
