Do I get native 4K ULTRA HD?
Yes. Since the same director is behind the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon as the animated one, it's no surprise that he wanted to maintain a similar visual style. Therefore, when discussing a film that reflects its animated source material, we are talking about technically perfect visuals without visible noise or grain, perfect sharpness and attention to detail, almost photorealistic effects, and an image quality that treads the line between digital animation and live-action camera footage.
Only the most modern cameras are capable of achieving this, which in this case are the Arri Alexa 35 and the Arri Alexa LF IMAX. The post-production of this footage was, of course, handled entirely in 4K. The "polished" visuals of How to Train Your Dragon will likely stand out even more on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray than in theaters. If we add the fact that on the UHD BD we also get a variable aspect ratio, where some scenes "open up" to the IMAX 1.90:1, a visual feast and technical perfection can be expected.
