The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Andrew Adamson's sweeping 2005 fantasy adaptation of C. S. Lewis's novel was shot on classic 35mm analog film (Super 35) combined with large-format 35mm VistaVision stock for visual effects plates; however, given its more than one thousand demanding CGI shots (led by the digital lion Aslan), post-production was finished on a 2k Digital Intermediate master. For its Ultra HD Blu-ray debut, that source master was professionally upsampled to 4k and treated to Dolby Vision and HDR-10 color and luminance grading. Compared to the old 2008 Blu-ray disc, the 4k transfer delivers noticeably cleaner film grain reproduction, finer texture in mythical creatures' fur and battle armor, and above all a dramatic leap courtesy of HDR: Narnia's endless snow-covered plains and the White Witch's icy palace retain pristine highlight detail without clipping, while the spring thaw and climactic battle glow with a rich, storybook WCG palette.
