The Sound of Music

Yes—and in truly reference-grade form! Robert Wise's five-time Academy Award-winning 1965 musical treasure The Sound of Music was photographed by Ted D. McCord on large-format 65mm film in the Todd-AO process. A 65mm frame packs roughly twice the surface area of standard 35mm stock, carrying a theoretical resolution equivalent of 8k to 12k. For its 60th anniversary, the original 65mm camera negatives (supplemented by archival separation masters where damaged) underwent a painstaking nine-month restoration and high-resolution scan, yielding a brand-new native 4k master housed on a triple-layer BD-100 disc with Dolby Vision, HDR-10, and Dolby Atmos audio. International reviews have showered the transfer with praise: sweeping Austrian Alpine vistas, Baroque Salzburg interiors, and intricate costume textures exhibit such sharpness, depth, and—thanks to WCG and HDR—effortlessly natural color saturation that the film easily outshines most modern digital productions.
