Do I get native 4K Ultra HD?

Yes, but with some question marks. Tombstone was, of course, created entirely in an analog workflow, i.e., at a time when digital production was just about to change Hollywood. As such, it was shot on 35mm film, which, with its theoretical 6K resolution, should provide enough visual information for a quality 4K transfer. In its press materials, Disney claims that the film has been completely remastered and restored.

However, the question is whether they went back to the original analog prints for this occasion, restoring and newly digitizing them—meaning scanning them at 4K or higher—or if this is a remaster of older scans. Although the image is slightly reframed, I would personally lean towards the second option, as the transfer doesn't behave like fully restored material. Its softness suggests an origin in older scans when the material was digitized according to the lower standards of the time, even if perhaps at 4K (and possibly even 2K, which we unfortunately cannot know for sure).

In any case, this is a major upgrade compared to the outdated Blu-ray transfer, which suffered from color and brightness inaccuracies as well as additional digital sharpening. On UHD, the film looks more natural, better conveys the "feeling" of traditional film stock (including the grain, of course), and thanks to HDR, it manages to cover a wider exposure range of the source materials.

In other words, as is often the case, the Ultra HD Blu-ray provides the best possible way to see the film, both visually and audibly. The film has never looked or sounded better, and it is questionable whether it's even possible to get more out of the source materials.
