Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Post-production work—and consequently the finished distribution master—was completed in 2K, as Whiplash was shot on a combination of Arri Alexa digital cameras recording 2K raw footage and Canon EOS 7D cameras shooting 1080p/24. For the UHD presentation, this material is therefore upsampled. Differences over the standard Blu-ray can thus be expected primarily in the quality of the upscaling, better noise definition and separation from the rest of the image thanks to superior HEVC compression, and of course improved color and luminance reproduction via HDR and WCG. Another undeniably important element for this music drama is the upgrade of its already outstanding audio track to Dolby Atmos. As always: in its UHD incarnation, Whiplash looks and sounds better than ever before—and given the limits of the source material, it will never get any better.
