Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Yes. Much like the biographical drama Sully, the sci-fi adventure Passengers was captured on Arri Alexa 65 digital cameras at an incredible 6.5K resolution. This raw footage was then downscaled for post-production, but only slightly: both the working and final masters had a 4K resolution. The Ultra HD Blu-ray will therefore deliver the film in the exact form and quality its creators intended.

International reviews (1) praise the transfer in every respect, hailing it as reference quality. Sharpness and fine detail rendering are reportedly so dazzling at times that the film almost looks artificial, which is partly due to its futuristic production design. Alongside its ability to reveal substantially more detail, the UHDBD is reportedly also superior to the standard Blu-ray in color reproduction (skin tones, for instance, look more natural) and contrast handling. Given both the high-quality source material and the accomplished transfer, it is safe to say that Passengers squeezes the absolute maximum out of the format's current capabilities.
