Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Paul W.S. Anderson is a longtime adopter of new camera technologies, so it is no surprise that for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter he chose Red Epic Dragon cameras shooting at 5K resolution. That footage was stepped down to create a 4K digital intermediate and final master, giving the Ultra HD Blu-ray a native 4K source. According to international reviews, however, the presentation is far from a stunner. Compared to the Blu-ray, there is an uptick in fine detail rendering, deeper colors provide better object separation, and shadow detail and black levels are improved (with less noise)—but all of that is expected by default from UHD with HDR. Ultimately, it is a thoroughly average UHD transfer: a clear step up from the BD, but hardly demo material to show off to guests.
