Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

The Fate of the Furious was shot on several digital cameras at resolutions ranging from 3.4K (Arri Alexa XT) and 4K (Sony F55) up to 6K (Red Weapon Dragon). The source material was subsequently downscaled to 2K for post-production and distribution, which is the resolution at which the final master topped out. For the Ultra HD presentation, the film is therefore upscaled. It should be noted, however, that the Ultra HD Blu-ray benefits far more from HDR and WCG than from resolution alone. You can read more about the transfer in our review on Blu-space.

The Fate of the Furious was color-graded for a Dolby Vision presentation, and this UHDBD is one of the very first in history to include a Dolby Vision enhancement layer over HDR10. This means that in addition to HDR10, the transfer carries dynamic metadata that allows for a wider luminance range and greater color depth. To play it back, however, you need a complete Dolby Vision chain—both a player and a display that support DV. If you don't have them, there's no need to worry: the disc will still play back in standard Ultra HD with HDR10. For more information about Dolby Vision, read our article on Blu-space.
