Yes. When creating Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the filmmakers developed a new type of animation that combines computer-generated and hand-drawn images. The frame rate also varies or "skips" from character to character, while the entire film is rendered at just twelve frames, which are duplicated to achieve 24 fps. This allowed the hand-drawn and computer-generated images to come together in a 4K master. However, this unique animation style benefits most from the presence of HDR, both from its color palette and its expanded brightness range, which turn the animated film into a reference-quality viewing experience.
