Do I get native 4k ULTRA HD?
Yes. F. Gary Gray's kinetic 2003 heist thriller was shot by future Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister (Christopher Nolan's longtime collaborator) on 35mm analog film with Panavision anamorphic lenses and finished photochemically without a Digital Intermediate. For its Ultra HD Blu-ray release, Paramount struck a native 4k scan directly from the original 35mm camera negative graded in both Dolby Vision and HDR-10. Compared to the ancient 2006 MPEG-2 Blu-ray disc, the upgrade is night and day: sunlit Venetian canals, snow-covered Alpine peaks, and the red, white, and blue Mini Cooper chases through Los Angeles streets and subway tunnels boast razor-sharp detail, fine organic grain, and punchy primary colors.
