Total Recall 4k | 1990

Yes. Paul Verhoeven's cult 1990 sci-fi classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger was shot on traditional 35mm film using Arriflex 35 BL4 cameras, enhanced by Rob Bottin's brilliant practical makeup effects and miniatures, and finished completely photochemically. For its anniversary edition, Studiocanal went back to the original 35mm camera negatives, scanning them at 16-bit depth in 4k and creating a brand-new native 4k master under the personal supervision of Paul Verhoeven himself, complete with Dolby Vision, HDR-10, and a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Compared to earlier Blu-ray editions, the Ultra HD Blu-ray delivers a dramatic increase in fine detail, natural film grain reproduction, and—thanks to WCG and HDR—a phenomenal rendering of the deep red Martian landscape, neon clubs in Venusville, and crisp specular highlights. While brief optical effects shots naturally soften slightly due to period compositing technology, as a whole this is the definitive presentation of a sci-fi classic.
