Do I get native 4K ULTRA HD?

Yes, and we're in for a dramatic upgrade over any previous presentation! Although McTeigue shot *V for Vendetta* on 35 mm film, the raw materials were originally scanned in 2K and post-produced at that resolution — so the theatrical master was locked at 2K. The subsequent standard Blu-ray was based on an encode originally intended for HD-DVD and didn’t utilize the full potential of the format: it suffered from heavy compression (with the outdated VC-1 codec), resulting in loss of detail, compression artifacts, and degraded color reproduction. The presentation of *V for Vendetta* has never been fully optimal.

That all changes with the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release. The studio returned to the original negatives, scanned them in 4K, and reconstructed the film into a native 4K master based on the original EDL. This not only offers a massive resolution boost compared to Blu-ray and even the theatrical prints, but also takes full advantage of the exposure latitude of analog 35 mm film, fully realized in the new HDR grade — which additionally benefits from Wide Color Gamut (WCG).

*V for Vendetta* now looks better on Ultra HD Blu-ray than it ever did — even better than it did in theaters, which used 2K prints. The jump to UHD, powered by HDR and a new Dolby Atmos mix, means not only significantly better quality but also the absolute maximum visual potential of the analog source, making this the definitive and best-looking version of the film — ever.
