Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

47 Ronin was shot primarily on Arri Alexa digital cameras, with raw footage captured at 2.8K. Sequences shot in native 3D were recorded at just 1080p/24 onto HDCAM SR. The entire film was digitally finished in 2K, which is also the resolution of the final master. Consequently, the source material has been upsampled for this UHDBD release. In terms of fine detail rendering, only a below-average uptick can be expected, though more efficient compression and professional upsampling certainly help. The title benefits primarily from the expanded color gamut and luminance range—visual elements that are arguably more important than raw pixel count for such a visually stylized film. Given the source materials, it is clear that this UHDBD represents the definitive presentation of the film; it has never looked better, and given the inherent limitations of the source, it never will.
