Dune

The world of Dune was created in a six-volume science fiction novel by American writer Frank Herbert (* 8.10.1920, † 11.2.1986). The first volume, entitled Dune, was published in 1965, and the book eventually became a bestseller. Subsequently, sequels were published: The Saviour of Dune (1970), Children of Dune (1976), The Divine Emperor of Dune (1981), Heretics of Dune (1984) and Chapter: Dune (1985).

The story is set in the far future and tells of the desert planet Arrakis, which contains the rare spice melange, which prolongs human life and grants its user extraordinary psychic powers. It is the most precious substance in the universe, and not for nothing is it said: He who has the power over spices has the power over everything. Soon a war breaks out over the planet, with the Duke's son Paul Atreides at the forefront. Could he be the saviour for whom the native Fremen have waited so long?

Several successful computer games and series have been based on Dune. However, the most famous adaptations are the 1984 film Dune by director David Lynch and the new two-part adaptations by director Denis Villeneuve in 2021 and 2024.
