Transformers

Transformers is originally a Japanese-American toy line produced by Hasbro and Takara Tomy. It appeared on store shelves in 1984 alongside a comic-book series and an animated television show. From those, it also grew into the world of video games and eventually films. The central motif of the series is the civil war between the so-called Autobots and Decepticons, robotic organisms capable of changing their form and transforming into cars, fighter jets, and other vehicles. The long battle between good and evil takes place on the planet Cybertron, but gradually extends to Earth as well.

The Transformers film franchise was launched in 2007 under the production auspices of Steven Spielberg by director Michael Bay, who then also directed the direct sequels. The war heroes of Cybertron - Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, and their commander Optimus Prime - fight the Decepticons, among whom Starscream, Barricade, and group leader Megatron stand out.
