Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Because Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was made prior to 2001, when feature-length CG animation was still in its infancy, the film naturally had certain technological limitations that cannot be overcome due to the nature of digital rendering. As a result, minor banding or aliasing present in the source elements can still be spotted on the Ultra HD disc. Even so, despite being over twenty years old, it delivers solid visual quality. Although early digital theatrical projection at the time (remember early DLP?) maxed out at 1280x1024 (anamorphic), Final Fantasy was reportedly rendered at WQHD—nearly 2K resolution. This 'near-2K' master is therefore upsampled to UHD. Compared to original theatrical screenings, you can expect a dramatic audiovisual leap. Owners of the original Blu-ray editions are in for an upgrade as well: the UHDBD brings an expanded luminance range and color gamut which, according to international reviews, yields a brighter, more contrasty, and visually more appealing image. Given the age and nature of the source material, we can be certain that Final Fantasy will never look better in any distribution format.
