Do I get native 4k?
On the Edge of Tomorrow was shot on analogue cameras, i.e. 35 mm film, whose theoretical resolution exceeds 4k standards. However, the subsequent scanning and digital post-production was done in 2k, which was then logically the resolution at which the final master stopped. Still, UHDBD can offer an upgrade over the original Blu-ray in every conceivable way - its sense of detail and sharpness is only slightly better, but the higher quality compression and the expansion of brightness and colour space in the form of HDR are responsible for a leap in visuals that exceeds the limits of the original Blu-ray but also cinema presentations. Additionally, the already great original sound has received a Dolby Atmos upmix, making it an expected reference listen. As a result, upgrading to UHDBD is almost a must.
