Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Yes. Given its age, it comes as no surprise that The Karate Kid was shot on classic 35mm motion picture film and finished photochemically, without a Digital Intermediate (DI) phase like modern productions. This allowed the studio to return to the original camera negatives, restore them, scan them in 4k, and create a brand-new 4k master. This process yields the maximum amount of image data native to the analog original, accurately representing film grain while presenting the movie in a quality that surpasses even its original theatrical run. Combined with the UHD format's ability to extract wider color gamuts and high dynamic range via WCG and HDR technologies, it is clear that The Karate Kid has never looked better—and likely never will.

Do I get native 4k ULTRA HD?

Yes. Like the original film, 1986's The Karate Kid Part II was shot by cinematographer James Crabe on classic 35mm analog film and finished entirely photochemically without a digital intermediate. Sony Pictures returned to the original 35mm camera negatives for a 4k scan and full restoration, housing the native 4k master on its own triple-layer BD-100 disc with Dolby Vision, HDR-10, and a new Dolby Atmos mix. The sun-drenched Okinawan locations burst with lush greens, natural skin tones, and deep shadow detail across lantern-lit and stormy sequences thanks to WCG and HDR, backed by Sony's signature reference-grade grain reproduction and HEVC encoding.

Do I get native 4k ULTRA HD?

Yes. The 1989 conclusion to the original trilogy was likewise shot on 35mm analog film and finished photochemically. Sony once again went back to the original 35mm camera negatives for a 4k scan, comprehensive restoration, and new Dolby Vision and HDR-10 grading on a dedicated triple-layer BD-100 disc with Dolby Atmos audio. The native 4k transfer extracts every last drop of fine detail, film grain, and highlight dynamic range across California exteriors and tournament arenas, ensuring the entire Karate Kid trilogy will never look better on home video.
