Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Yes. Scott's sci-fi classic was, of course, shot on traditional 35mm motion picture film. As a result, the studio can return to its archives at any time and rescan the analog source elements for digital reproduction aimed at future generations. That is precisely what happened for the film's fortieth anniversary, when newly restored and scanned elements were brought together into a 4K master that serves as the source for this native Ultra HD presentation. From the new disc, viewers can expect both an increase in fine detail rendering and sharpness, as well as better film grain definition. Moreover, with the help of a new HDR grade, Alien can rely on luminance rendering and contrast that not even original 35mm theatrical prints could provide. It is therefore clear that its presentation on Ultra HD Blu-ray—approved by director Ridley Scott himself—is the best possible and thus truly definitive. Indeed, it is highly unlikely that any further audiovisual information could ever be squeezed out of the original camera negatives. Owning the Ultra HD Blu-ray edition is therefore even better than having an original 35mm film print in your basement. You can read our review of the new transfer at this link on Blu-space.cz.
