Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Shot on Arri Alexa Mini and XT digital cameras, Last Night in Soho benefits less from "raw resolution" (it was shot in 3.4K and mastered in 2K) than from the fact that it was mastered in HDR (specifically Dolby Vision, which is also present on the disc). A film whose scenes frequently unfold in nighttime settings illuminated by fluorescent lights and neon signs will always look dramatically better in HDR than on standard Blu-ray or even in a movie theater. It can fundamentally deepen the luminance range of the image and make full use of modern digital capture capabilities. So even though the master of Edgar Wright's latest film is "only" 2K, the UHD transfer represents the absolute maximum visual potential of the source material, and as always, we can safely call it the highest-quality presentation of the film possible.
