Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Although the new Spider-Man follows a trend we frequently discuss with 2020–2022 releases (and beyond)—having been shot on the new Arri Alexa LF digital cameras, whose raw capture resolution typically sits at 4.5K—it was ultimately mastered in 'only' 2K for an understandable reason common to all productions of this scale: rendering such an enormous volume of digital effects in 4K would have been exponentially more demanding in both time and cost. Even so, we can look forward to a top-tier audiovisual experience bordering on reference quality: the solid 4.5K foundation holds up remarkably well even after downsampling to 2K and upsampling back to 4K, so you can expect superb sharpness and fine detail rendering virtually indistinguishable from native 4K. Add in HDR and WCG—whose contributions to image quality are arguably even more impactful than resolution—and we are in for a real treat, as comic book movies are tailor-made for HDR. Moreover, the old adage holds true: thanks to modern UHD technologies, the film will look even better on UHDBD than it did in theaters.
