Do I get native 4K Ultra HD?
Life, like many other big productions in recent months, was shot on Arri Alexa 65 digital cameras whose massive sensors behave like the equivalent of 65mm film stock, offering unprecedented image quality. However, despite shooting on these 6.5K monsters (and on the Arri Alexa Mini at 3.4K), the final post-production and digital effects were completed in 2K. The 2K master is therefore upscaled for the Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation. Foreign reviews naturally praise the UHDBD over the BD, mainly thanks to better texture handling and the added depth provided by HDR. On the other hand, they note that the UHD encode is slightly noisier. In any case, the UHD presentation is clearly superior to the standard Blu-ray.
