Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Chazzelle went to the trouble of shooting Babylon on classic 35mm analogue film, which in some scenes was supplemented by its Super 35 variant. While this footage was subsequently scanned, post-produced and mastered in 4k, the filmmakers achieved their goal: The transfer has the natural visual qualities of 35mm, while maintaining the qualitative consistency of digital footage. This native 4K transfer therefore brings the best of both worlds, and we can look forward to a visually specific yet qualitatively perfect video with all the modern characteristics we demand from such a transfer.
