Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. David Lean's war classic was shot on 65mm negative—large-format film. These oversized film strips capture vastly more visual information than standard 35mm motion picture film. The studio was therefore able to go into its archives and scan the 65mm negatives at a staggering 8K resolution. This raw scanned material was archived and then downsampled to 4K for digital restoration, the resolution at which all restoration work was performed and the new master was subsequently exported. The Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation thus draws from a native 4K source whose wealth of image information easily surpasses even most contemporary film productions. When you add in the expanded color and luminance range—plus the fact that the film was split across two discs to maximize compression quality—it is clear that Lawrence of Arabia has never looked better and that this is a true reference disc, as confirmed by international reviews.
Big Victory
- Feature film in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160)
- HDR (HDR-10)
- Aspect ratio 2.39:1
- Original audio in Dolby Atmos
- BD-66 (dual-layer UHDBD)
Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. The original camera negatives of A League of Their Own were fully restored for this UHD presentation, with a 4K scan serving as the foundation for a native 4K master. The disc draws from a deep well of visual detail, encoded with Sony's signature top-tier compression. International reviews praise not only the impressive fine detail rendering and textures, but also the preservation of its organic filmic look—retaining natural grain definition and the luminance dynamics of the analog elements, further underscored by HDR. As with every film in this collection, it has never looked this good before, and in all likelihood, it never will.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
- Feature film in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160)
- HDR (HDR-10)
- Aspect ratio 1.66:1
- Original audio in DTS-HD MA 2.0
- BD-66 (dual-layer UHDBD)
Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. For the new UHD transfer, the studio went back to the archival negatives, which were completely restored and scanned in 4K. The Ultra HD Blu-ray can therefore utilize the maximum resolving power of the original film stock, delivering unprecedented sharpness and fine detail rendering for this title. And while it might not seem obvious for a black-and-white film, Dr. Strangelove also benefits greatly from HDR—international reviews highlight a brighter, livelier image with superior dynamic range that even the newly mastered Blu-ray cannot match due to the limitations of SDR. As holds true for all films in this collection: the movie has never looked this good, and in all likelihood, it never will look any better.
Jerry Maguire
- Feature film in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160)
- HDR (HDR-10)
- Aspect ratio 1.85:1
- Original audio in Dolby Atmos
- BD-100 (triple-layer UHDBD)
Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Jerry Maguire already looked terrific on the remastered standard Blu-ray, but the Ultra HD Blu-ray takes the presentation—sourced from 4K scans of the original camera negatives—to the next level across the board: in fine detail rendering, compression quality, organic grain reproduction, and of course luminance dynamics and color palette. International reviews of Tom Cruise's classic are ecstatic, so as with every film in this collection, the verdict holds true: the movie has never looked this good before, and in all likelihood, it never will.
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
- Feature film in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160)
- HDR (HDR-10)
- Aspect ratio 1.37:1
- Original audio in DTS-HD MA 2.0
- BD-66 (dual-layer UHDBD)
Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Although Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is over eighty years old, it proves that well-preserved film elements can serve as the foundation for a stunning Ultra HD transfer: prior to its 4K scan, the film underwent a complete restoration from the original 35mm analog elements and looks even better than it did at its theatrical premiere. Alongside its fine detail rendering, international reviewers also highlight the contribution of HDR, which beautifully reproduces the luminance dynamics of motion picture film and upgrades the image despite its black-and-white presentation. As with every film in this collection, the verdict is clear: it has never looked this good before, and in all likelihood, it never will.
Gandhi (2 Discs)
- Feature film in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160)
- HDR (HDR-10)
- Aspect ratio 2.39:1
- Original audio in Dolby Atmos
- 2x BD-66 (dual-layer UHDBD)
Will I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. The final film in the collection also underwent a complete restoration of its original 35mm analog elements prior to its 4K scan, ensuring a pristine native 4K transfer. Moreover, the UHDBD is completely free of compression strain, as the studio wisely spread the feature across two discs. Add in the expanded luminance and color gamuts (HDR and WCG), and as with every film in this set, the conclusion is clear: the movie has never looked this good before, and in all likelihood, it never will.
